WAYS YOU CAN HELP - Under development
You might think you are a small fish in a big pond when it comes to helping put a stop to puppy mills. Think again!
It is the small fish who helps keep the puppy mills going by buying their ill-bred puppies - albeit unknowingly
To help stop the puppy mill industry you can:
- Educate yourself about puppy mills and how to spot puppy mill stock in shiny pet store displays
- Educate your friends about puppy mills and the horrors that go on in them
- Encourage your friends to stop buying puppies in pet stores
- Adopt a pet from a rescue shelter or animal organisation rather than from a pet store. For every puppy that sells in a pet store, another puppy will quickly replace it
- If you can afford to, make a small donation to any of the rescue services that operate to help close down puppy mills and help the rescued animals to recouperate and rehabilitate
- If you suspect you know the location of a puppy mill, REPORT it to the proper authorities
- IF you must buy a puppy from a pet store, do your homework. A reputable pet store will be able to arrange a viewing of the parents of the puppy and give you a full, unfaultering history of the puppy and it's parents
